Yamaha Withdraws Viñales From the Australian GP

Yamaha have suspended Maverick Viñales. Albeit regrettably, this means that Viñales will not feature in this weekend’s Australian MotoGP. A detailed analysis of telemetry data, which informed his suspension, showed that the rider’s action on the track could have endangered his life, along with those of other riders in the Syria MotoGP race. It is also expected that Yamaha could make further decisions about future events following discussions with the professional and detailed analysis of the situation.

Viñales, a nine-time MotoGP rider, has had issues with Yamaha and is set to terminate his contract with one year remaining. According to him, the main reason for his early exit from Yamaha is that he feels he cannot give his best on the bike. This means that MotoGP fans will be seeing him joining another team for the 2022 season. However, Vinales remains put that there is still no movement.

What’s Next for Viñales?

Of course, MotoGP fans would want to see Viñales in the 2022 season. When asked about his 2022 situation, Viñales had the following to say:

“Now I want to enjoy my holiday since the first half of the season has been reasonably hard, and I want to enjoy with my family.”

“I have nothing against anyone. All I want is to take it easy, and we will see what happens in 2022.”

However, when it was put to him about the possibility of teaming up with Aprilia, Viñales was unable to make any conclusion. Even though Yamaha is at a higher winning level than Aprilia, the former might be his next destination.

The Consequences of the Suspension

Yamaha’s decision to suspend Viñales could have serious ramifications considering that Franco Mobedeli is out with a knee injury. As it stands, Yamaha is fully reliant on a single rider, Fabio Quartararo. Even though replacing Viñales with Crutchlow is still possible, this might be likened to plugging a hole with a finger.

Yamaha’s relationship with Viñales is certainly on the rocks. As Yamaha seeks to find two riders from the Petrona’s for the 2022 season, they might also be required to look for a player to fill Viñales’ position for 2021.
